Step Back in Time: Welcome to the Conny Meade Carriage House & Stable
Built in 1902, this exceptional property stands as a testament to craftsmanship and history. Originally commissioned by T. Ellwood Allison at just 24 years old, this remarkable carriage house and stable reflects the grandeur of a bygone era. Allison, heir to a substantial fortune from his grandfather's boxcar manufacturing empire, was a key figure in Media’s early real estate development, owning over 150 acres that were transformed into residential neighborhoods. His dedication to quality and design is evident throughout this stunning structure.
The northern section of the building once housed horses in five meticulously crafted stalls, with white-glazed brick walls that remain as pristine today as they were a century ago. The original iron stall dividers, adorned with solid brass finials, stand as elegant reminders of the property's equestrian past. Three of these dividers now integrate seamlessly into the home’s interior design, blending heritage with modern living.
Treasure with Rustic Charm
At the heart of the home, a rounded turret rises three stories, creating a striking architectural feature. This turret houses a cozy sitting room with a commanding stone fireplace, while the original carriage doors—beautifully preserved—grant access to a large, unfinished storage space. The southern third of the building, once a carriage bay, retains its beadboard walls and ceiling, exuding rustic charm. Upon conversion into a residence, this vast area—spanning over 1,300 square feet—was thoughtfully reimagined, incorporating two original stall dividers to create distinct dining and entertaining spaces.
The kitchen, a central hub connecting the home’s two wings, boasts direct access to a serene backyard with an inviting stone patio and an in-ground pool, perfect for summer gatherings. A charming breakfast room with built-in cabinetry adds a touch of practicality and elegance.
